


Stevens says he wrote it from "a seven-hundred-page outline provided by Alex. However, screenwriter and playwright David Stevens - who rates very low on the title page - takes full responsibility for the book's existence (though not until the afterword, when a reader presumably has finished reading what he took for a Haley creation). Not published until 15 months after Alex Haley's death and, oddly, not until three months after it served as the basis for a CBS-TV miniseries, it is touted in the jacket copy as Haley's "final book.

As a posthumous novel, "Queen" is something of an oddity and, in its publisher's promotional puffery at least, something of a scam.
